Happy Small Business Saturday! Some of you may be big Black Friday or Cyber Monday buffs, but this is my favorite of the fake shopping holidays. One of the things I love most about living in Madison is being able to meet and get to know so many amazing local entrepreneurs and business owners. Talk about hard work and hustle! I love shopping local during the holidays because it’s a great feeling to be able to support the people in my community and give gifts that feel really special and unique. So today, in honor of Small Business Saturday, I’m rounding up all the local spots I’ll be shopping at this holiday season…
Anthology – My go-to place for gifts year-round. Feminist goodies, beautifully illustrated cards, Wisconsin fare, and quirky craft materials.
Little Luxuries – My favorite place for reasonably priced leather purses, fun glass ornaments, and goofy trinkets for the people who have everything.
LMC Boutique – With cozy sweaters, cute earrings, and fabulous dresses, LMC has beautiful and affordable pieces (with most items falling in the $35-$50 range). I’m definitely eyeing a few pieces for my stepmom! Oh and don’t be surprised if you see a familiar face on their website…
Fromagination – It’s not a Wisconsin Christmas without cheese! If you have a foodie in your life or are looking for a nice hostess gift, you can’t go wrong.
Marie Hunter Beauty – This clean beauty brand creates a comprehensive line of lip products and skincare and is produced in the same factories as many luxury brands – all by a local Madison founder. I’m not a makeup expert, but I’m so impressed by the high-standards set by this brand.
Bungalow608 – I stumbled into this gorgeous shop last year and was so impressed at their beautiful, artisanal home goods. All ethically-sourced products it’s a store you can feel good shopping in.
Thyme is Honey – For any organization-lovers, students, or folks trying to get organized in 2020, definitely check out gifts from Dani Bruflodt’s Etsy shop. She’s a former Madisonian-turned-ex-pat and makes the most beautiful, well-designed planners, notepads, and calendars.
Laquerus – Treat your mom, bestie, or work wife to a fun, non-toxic, waterless mani this holiday! With a chill atmosphere and sweet, talented nail artists, it’s my favorite place to get my nails done in Madison.
A Room of One’s Own – My favorite bookstore in town! With an amazing selection of woke literature, poetry, sci-fi, and children’s books it’s the perfect place for anyone bookish in your life. I can’t wait to buy some fun books for my nephew this year!
Madison Museum of Contemporary Art – An underrated, but amazing spot if you’re looking for a modern and unique gift. Museum gift shops always have the coolest stuff and this one does not disappoint, especially if you’re looking for interesting home goods.
Lev Apparel – Shopping from Lev Apparel is feel good on so many levels. This body-positive brand works hard to create beautiful basics that are ethnically-made and support women who are coming out of human-trafficking situations. Such an incredible company!
Vom Fass – I’ve stopped in here a few times on the semi-annual wine walk and am always impressed at their selection. This spot has a huge variety of fancy and interesting liquors, olive oils, and vinegars. A bottle from here would be perfect for any whiskey-lovers ( 🙋🏼) or at-home chefs in your life.
Melissa Jenkins Designs – If you want to give a jewelry-lover in your life something stunning and unique, definitely check out Melissa’s online shop. She’s a local Madison maker and her pieces are gorgeous, high-quality, and shockingly affordable.
Revel – If you’re feeling a little DIY! Revel is a total treasure in Madison and would be the perfect place to make something special for a loved one this year (or gift them a crafting experience with a gift card). They have so many amazing projects and lots of cool workshops coming up this season, so definitely stop in for a night of festive cocktails and craftiness!
Dragonfly Hot Yoga – Classes to my favorite yoga studio in Madison would make an amazing gift for a fitness buff or runner in your life! Dragonfly also offers barre and interval training classes, too, so it’s not only yoga. Great teachers, clean and relaxing facilities, and lots of good energy!
St. Vinny’s – If you’re looking to go the Thrift-mas route, I can’t recommend St. Vinny’s enough. It’s my go-to thrift store in Madison and they have a bunch of convenient locations around the city. I’ve found so many beautiful pieces of clothing, furniture, brand-new books, and more at their store. Definitely check out if you’re looking for gifts, festive clothes, or holiday decorations on a budget.
Where are you shopping small this season? Of course there are some not-so-small businesses I’ll be supporting this Christmas too, but I really like to shop local when I can. Madison has really come to feel like home, so I’m delighted to put my money where my heart is and to share a little piece of Madison with the people I love. 😊
