I may have missed the boat on Small Business Saturday, but I still love shopping local and supporting small businesses during the holidays! Madison has so many awesome little shops around town that it’s easy to pick up the perfect thing for everyone on your list. It’s my third Christmas here in Madison so I’m feeling pretty confident about my local shopping game this year.👌🏼
I’ve also gotten to meet some local business owners over the last few months and am really starting to understand how *hard* they work! It’s a great feeling to be able to support the people in my community and give gifts that feel really special and unique. So today, in honor of Small Business Saturday, I’m rounding up all the local spots I’ll be shopping at this holiday season…
Anthology – My go-to place for gifts year-round. Feminist goodies, beautifully illustrated cards, Wisconsin fare, and quirky craft materials.
Little Luxuries – My favorite place for reasonably priced leather purses, fun glass ornaments, and goofy trinkets for the people who have everything.
Fromagination – It’s not a Wisconsin Christmas without cheese! If you have a foodie in your life or are looking for a nice hostess gift, you can’t go wrong.
Good Day Collective – The newest addition to the shops on the Square, this pop up shop has chic jewelry, modern home goods, and locally made clothing. It won’t be here for long, so definitely take advantage for the holidays.
A Room of One’s Own – My favorite bookstore in town! With an amazing selection of woke literature, poetry, sci-fi, and children’s books it’s the perfect place for anyone bookish in your life. I can’t wait to buy some fun books for my nephew this year!
Candinas Chocolatier – We used to get these chocolates at my old job on holidays and birthdays and they were definitely a big perk. With cute packaging and a convenient downtown location these are a no brainer for hostess gifts, teachers, or coworkers.
Madison Museum of Contemporary Art – An underrated, but amazing spot if you’re looking for a modern and unique gift. Museum gift shops always have the coolest stuff and this one does not disappoint, especially if you’re looking for interesting home goods.
Vom Fass – For something a little stronger than eggnog. Despite the unfortunate name (lol sorry guys), this spot has a great selection of fancy and interesting liquors. A bottle from here would be perfect for any whiskey-lovers ( 🙋🏼) in your life.
Context – There aren’t a lot of cool men’s shops in Madison so definitely stop in here for the guys on your list, particularly if they have a rugged, hipster vibe going on. I think my brother will be getting a few things from here this year (don’t worry, he doesn’t read my blog lol).
Fontana Sports Specialties – Anyone who knows me knows that I’m emphatically indoorsy. BUT my dad and stepmom did just move to Colorado and do all kinds of outdoorsy things so I’ve gifted them things from here before (including a set of hiking-friendly wine glasses because they’re not animals).
Revel – If you’re feeling a little DIY! Revel is a total treasure in Madison and would be the perfect place to make something special for a loved one this year. They have so many amazing projects and lots of cool workshops coming up this season, so definitely stop in for a night of festive cocktails and craftiness!
Red Square Flowers – For all your friends who finally moved out of student housing. Now that I’ve hit 25 most of my friends live in *real* apartments and nothing says adult apartment like a house plant. With two locations downtown, they have a wide variety of beautiful plants and pots that would make really lovely gifts.
Where are you shopping small this season? Of course there are some not-so-small businesses I’ll be supporting this Christmas too, but I really like to shop local when I can. Madison has really come to feel like home, so I’m delighted to put my money where my heart is and to share a little piece of Madison with the people I love. 😊
