I can’t believe it’s already Thanksgiving week! This year has been pretty crazy, but now that things have settled down a little bit I’m excited to relax and spend some time with my family and friends over the holidays. Thanksgiving, especially, is my favorite holiday for three reasons:
- No gift giving. I love Christmas, but there is always so much added pressure (emotionally and financially) of buying and receiving gifts. I much prefer all the family time and delicious food without the strain of gifts involved.
- The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. I grew up watching the parade and I love that we still do it every year albeit with champagne now days. It’s always hilarious seeing what random celebrity is on what float, to watch all the Broadway dance numbers, and generally make fun of the whole thing. It’s the best.
- The food! I love Thanksgiving food so obviously this is my favorite part of the day. I’m a total sides girl: gravy, potatoes, stuffing, green bean casserole, crescent rolls. Ugh I’m excited just thinking about the spread. In fact, I always like to go for a long run before dinner just to make sure I’m extra hungry. When you pair all that food with good wine and great company it always makes Thanksgiving dinner the best part of the holiday.
Since food is the highest priority of the day I like to make sure I’m wearing something that makes me feel comfortable no matter how many times I go back for seconds. I wore this outfit to a big family dinner a few weeks ago and it totally passed the food baby test so I thought I’d share it here for the holidays. Our Thanksgiving will probably be chill this year, but if I was going somewhere a little more formal I would def be wearing this outfit…
Top by Madewell (old), vintage lace pants from St. Vinny’s, Ellen Tracy coat (old), Burgundy heels by H&M, vintage purse from Retrospect Vintage in Philadelphia, Earrings from Kendra Scott
I also love this outfit because it includes some of my recent staple pieces. My mom actually bought me this coat like 10 years ago because she refused to let me go to a high-school dance wearing a puffer coat over my formal dress (fair play mom lol) and I rediscovered it a few years ago in a move. It’s just one of those pieces that makes me feel like a real adult. I wear it to work with boots and dresses, but love that it also elevates a basic jeans and sneakers look. It’s been my go-to outwear for years and I love it.
This purse has also become a recent favorite since I bought it at a vintage shop back in August. I’m a sucker for a structured bag and I love that it’s a take on the “picnic bag” trend that’s been so popular lately. With it’s summery vibes, it’s been really fun to pair it with winter pieces, too.
I can’t not mention these shoes I got recently, as well! I bought them back in October for a night out and have been pleasantly surprised at how many wears I’ve already gotten out of them. I’ve worn them to dinner, to parties, on interviews, even on halloween! I try not to buy a lot from fast fashion places like H&M, but, to be honest, money has been tight the last few months and I needed a cheap, easy option. Luckily, they’re quickly on their way to #30Wears and they’ve totally become a Fall/Winter staple this year which helps mitigate my shopping guilt a little bit.
What are you guys up to this year for Thanksgiving?! I always love hearing about other family’s traditions and fun things people do at the holidays. Besides eating, I’m really excited to see some old friends this weekend and hopefully stop by my favorite Christkindlmarket in Chicago. Oh and it will officially be Christmas movie time (not that I haven’t already started watching those)! Leave a comment below with your favorite Thanksgiving weekend tradition 👇🏼
